Are you starting a new business?
The pandemic has made people rethink their working lives, with many people (including me) starting up their own businesses.
When starting up a new business there are a few things that you can do to get off to a great start. Here are a few essentials that I would suggest all new businesses should have in place, most of which I can help you with.
Logo & branding
To give a professional look to your business you should have a logo designed. This makes you stand out from other similar businesses and easily recognisable. This should come with branding guidelines showing you the colours and fonts of your logo along with complementing ones. This ensures that your branding is consistent across all the platforms that you use, such as print, marketing, social media and your website.
The first place people tend to look to find something that they want or need is the internet. Getting your business on the internet with a good-looking responsive website is essential for a business in 2022. A website is like an online brochure, it shows people the services and products that you offer, the history and people behind the business, testimonials and photographs of your work along with ways in which you can be contacted. It is a quick and efficient way of reaching many potential customers and provides them with most of the information that they need with a few clicks.
Websites can work well on their own but you can help them work even better with these extra platforms. Having your business on these platforms can help with the SEO (search engine optimisation) of a website but also get your business out there in the process.
The main social media platforms seem to be Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and for business-to-business there is LinkedIn. There are more out there so it’s good to research to see which ones will be good for your business. Social media is great to reach a huge audience, you can share photographs of your work, special offers, information and news instantly.
When checking the SEO of your website, social media connectivity comes up as a factor on the reports, so the more social you are the more it can help your website.
It’s a good idea to get your business on as many online directories as you can. Most online directories offer free basic listings with options to upgrade based on how much information you want to be available to users.
Backlinks are a factor on website SEO reports so having your website address on many directories will help your website search position whilst getting your business name in front of more and more people.
Google My Business
Google offers you a free business profile, this gives people that are searching for your services a bit of information about your business. The profile includes your logo, web address, telephone number, directions to your place of work, opening hours and a place for customers to leave reviews. It can also give you insights into how people are finding your business.
Having all your stationery printed with your branding gives a professional look. From invoices, quotes and letters being printed on branded paper and posted in branded envelopes to business cards, thank you/review cards, stickers and compliment slips all being consistent in look gives off a great image.
Marketing & Advertising Materials
Getting your name out there as a new business is extremely important!
Leaflets are a favourite way of marketing, these can be bought in small and large quantities for you to hand deliver, hire a business to deliver or have on display in your office for people to take.
There are other printed items that are great for marketing such as posters, pvc banners, roller banners etc. I like to take packs of goodies out to potential customers and these include printed items such as a notepad, pen and a postcard with a message and contact information.
Marketing strategies can of course vary depending on the season giving plenty of marketing and advertising opportunities. Seasonal events, products and services will bring the need for banners, leaflets, brochures, posters, invitations, diaries, calendars and more.
Starting a new business can be hard and daunting but getting your name out there in as many avenues as possible is great way to get started. If you would like a quote, some information or a free consultation for any of my services then please contact me.
